THE GREEN SHOW – Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse
Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo Gallery, Epic Center – September 2011Working with a GREEN point of view, seventeen Kalamazoo area artists investigated how this might
impact their work. Many have looked to found objects as a source of materials and inspiration.
Others are recycling work that they created earlier in their career.
Still others are inspired by objects found in nature. Show Statement.

A bacterial infection helped to produce these complex linear and tonal patterns throughout this spalted maple wood.
The lathe-worked pieces attempt to halt the decay of the spalting process. As these pieces are stabilized and reshaped, they are subsequently fashioned into a stylized "rebuilt" tree.
As with many trees, the undergrowths of wild grape, bittersweet or Virginia creeper become symbiotic partners and artful woods wear. rumseyt@aol.com
